Overview
Dr. Shoib Siddiqui is a senior lecturer in the School of Life and Medical Sciences at the University of Hertfordshire, UK. Before starting his position at UH, he was working as an Assistant Professor at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK), UAE.
He worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the lab of Prof. Ajit Varki at University of California, San Diego (UCSD), California, USA from 2014 through 2018. His research work focused on the role of sialic acids and Siglecs (Sialic acid binding lectins) in cancer, Alzheimer’s, and sepsis. Dr. Shoib has extensively studied cancer in his Ph.D. and postdoctoral research. He did his Ph.D. dissertation at ETH Zurich, Switzerland in the lab of Prof. Michael Detmar. For his Ph.D dissertation, he investigated the role of neuropilin-2 (Nrp2), a cell surface receptor, in skin inflammation and cancer progression. Dr. Shoib obtained his Master of Sciences (M.Sc.) in Biotechnology from the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay of Powai, Mumbai, India in 2008. His field of interest is cancer biology, immunology and glycobiology. In his research career, Dr. Shoib has published ground-breaking work in the most reputable journals such as Journal of Clinical Investigation (JCI), PNAS, Blood, Circulation Research, EMBO and, JBC. He would like to further focus his research on finding the biomarker and studying the novel pathways associated with cancer progression.
