Overview
I joined the University of Hertfordshire as a full-time Lecturer in Nutrition & Dietetics in September 2020, after employment as an Associate Lecturer & Researcher at Oxford Brookes University. I hold: BSc (Hons) in Nutrition & Dietetics (Greece), MSc in Human Nutrition (Sweden) with “distinction” & PhD in Nutrition (UK) with main focus on nutritional epidemiology, exploring the relationship of diet quality over adulthood and later life walking speed, indicating overall functioning.
Currently, I work within the School of Life and Medical Sciences, contributing to both BSc(Hons) Nutrition& BSc(Hons) Dietetics courses. I lead & teach L4 - Professional Practice in Nutrition, two L6 - Public Health Nutrition modules and L6 - Nutrition Research. I also contribute to several Level 4 and Level 5 modules within the programme.
I supervise BSc, MSc& co-supervise PhD students. Currently, I have 0.1 FTE research allocation, which is invested in applying for small grants and establishing internal and external research collaborations.
My current roles also include: Admissions Co-Tutor & Study Year Abroad Tutor for the programme, working closely with Marketing Team to enhance the programme’s external profile.
I am a registered Nutritionist (RNutr) and Dietitian (RD) in Greece, and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and I am in the process of registering with the AfN, the HCPC.
My goal is to provide evidence-based knowledge and critical analysis skills so as to create a vibrant and innovative next generation of nutritionists and dietitians.
Research interests
Main focus on nutritional epidemiology, large dataset management, statistical analysis and interpretation of dietary patterns, diet quality indices and its relation with age-related health conditions.
So far, I have worked within retrospective, cross-sectional, prospective and longitudinal large datasets to generate / adapt diet quality indices to various populations against chronic disease (breast cancer, CVD, MI, stroke, HF) and mobility decline (walking speed).
