Overview
Dr Sikiru O. Ismail is a Lecturer in Manufacturing Engineering and Materials at School of Engineering and Computer Science, University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, England, United Kingdom. He is a member of Manufacturing, Materials and Biomedical Research Group, Centre for Engineering Research. He completed his Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in the School of Engineering, University of Portsmouth, England, United Kingdom, after obtained his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in the same University, as scholarship researcher with prestigious awards such as Paper Publication Prizes: Best Student Paper and First Place Awards at both School of Engineering and Faculty of Technology levels. Prior to his doctoral degree, he obtained National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Ondo State Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, Nigeria with Distinction Grade; Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering (Production) from Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria with First Class Honours Division; and Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering (Design and Production) from University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos State, Nigeria with Distinction Grade as well as Overall/Best Student in all his degree programmes, among other outstanding prizes. Also, he obtained Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from University of Hertfordshire, England, UK.
Moreover, Dr Ismail has several years of professional (industrial, research and academic/lecturing) experiences, having worked in many sectors, which include but are not limited to universities, polytechnics, colleges and engineering companies. He has worked as a lecturer, internal moderator, module leader, research fellow, examination officer, project co-ordinator/supervisor, personal tutor, staff adviser in schools and maintenance supervisor in industries. His research interest focuses on Products/Materials Design and Manufacturing aspect of Mechanical Engineering, with more emphasis on Machining (Drilling, Milling, among other operations) of Composite Materials, Design/Development/Testing and Damage Characterisation of various Engineering Materials using Experimental and Numerical/Finite Element/Analytical Modelling Techniques. Therefore, research proposals for degree (PhD/Doctorate, EngD, MPhil, MSc/MRes and BEng/BSc) studies and industrial collaborations on aforementioned and/or related research interests are warmly welcomed. He has successfully won some research grants/funding and scholarships. In addition, he has published/presented several articles in local/international conferences and reputable high impact factor Journals as well as Book Chapters. He has successfully supervised both undergraduates and postgraduate students’ projects as a first/lead and second/co-supervisor. Moreover, Dr Ismail is a reviewer and editorial board member of many reputable journals, such as Advances in Mechanical Engineering (SAGE), Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology (Emerald Insight), Composites Part B: Engineering (Elsevier), Defence Technology (Elsevier), Engineering Science and Technology, an International Journal (Elsevier), Journal of Engineering, Design and Technology ((Emerald Insight), Journal of Vibration Engineering and Technologies (Springer), Journal of Investigative Surgery (Taylor & Francis), International Journal of Machining and Machinability of Materials (Inderscience) and American Journal of Mechanical and Materials Engineering (SciencePC) as well as conferences, among other academic/research institutions.
Furthermore, Dr Ismail is a Member of several national and international professional bodies. These include, but are not limited to, Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), American Society for Composites (MASC), Association for Research Ethics (AfRE), Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), African Engineering Education Association (AEEA), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (Registered Engineer of COREN), Ergonomics Society of Nigeria (ESN), Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), Environment Division of Nigerian Society of Engineers (EdNSE), Nigerian Corrosion Association (NICA) and Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM, Chartered). He is a Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA), Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (FRSA) and Chartered Engineer of Institution of Engineering and Technology (CEng MIET). Summarily, Dr Ismail is an astute lecturer, erudite researcher and very passionate in processing excellence out of his students as well as solving engineering problems through cutting-edge research.
