Chemical, dynamical and spectro-photometric evolution of galaxies within cosmological hydrodynamical simulations. Nucleosynthesis of the chemical elements, their formation and evolution across the cosmic epochs. Chemical abundances in the stars and in the interstellar medium of galaxies.
Overview
I am a theoretical astrophysicist, interested in understanding how galaxies have formed and later evolved through cosmic epochs to give rise to their observed present day physical characteristics; in particular, I have specialised in reconstructing the past evolutionary history of galaxies, starting from the chemical abundance patterns as observed in the galaxy interstellar medium or in the stellar atmospheres at the present time.
I arrived at the University of Hertfordshire in January 2017 to work in the reseach team led by Chiaki Kobayashi. My main research project is to understand how the metallicity gradients developed within galaxies at high redshift, by making use of cosmological hydrodynamical simulations and a spectrophotometric stellar population synthesis code that I have developed to "light up" the stars within the simulations.
