Overview
I joined the University of Hertfordshire in August 2016 as a Research Fellow. The majority of my research so far has been in the renal field, inculding validating the Chronic Kidney Disease Patient Reported Experience Measure (PREM) for UK Renal Registry, also leading work to provide this survey online and in South Asian languages. Other work has included a study looking at the feasibility of changing patterns of dialysis for people with end stage renal disease, and leading a review of outcome measures used in research in end stage kidney disease. I have worked on a number of funding applications, similarly focussed on renal research, have been awarded an Early Career Research Grant, a Research Impact Grant, and a number of external grants which have been successful including funding from the British Renal Society to Develop a Self Management Tool for patients with Chronic Kidney Disease on Dialysis.
I am currently (Sept 2017) working on funding applications related to further developing the PREM, developing a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment for renal patients, and an investigation into haemodiaysis patient experience of cannulation.
Prior to joining UH I was Senior Analyst for National Audit Office (NAO), working on a range of studies evaluating high risk, high value government projects including Universal Credit and structural tax reliefs. The majority of my career has been spent in public sector research and evaluation. Before working at NAO I was a Research Director at ORC International, where I led the Central Government Division, overseeing tender applications and delivery of research work.
I completed my BA(Hons) in Applied Social Research at Manchester Metropolitan University, where I also completed a Diloma in HE and Diploma in Youth and Community Work. I completed my PhD at Aston University in 2001, looking at the organisational processes involved in managing safety risk. After three years as a Research Fellow at Aston, and approx 12 years in public sector research, I did my MSc in Psychology here at UH in 2015/16, which I was proud to be awarded with Distinction.
