Overview
Dr Dawn Rose is an early career researcher in the psychology of music and dance.
Her background as a professional musician (drummer), music teacher and performing artist has informed her research interests. Her doctoral work investigated effects of music education on cognitive, behavioural and socio-emotional domains in children alongside expertise in adults.
Within music psychology, her interests focus on rhythm, entrainment and synchronisation between motor functions and external stimuli. Her post doctoral work at the Dance Psychology Lab currently investigates the use of music and dance for people with Parkinson's. You can read her Dance Psychology Lab blog here.
Within the arts, her work has explored the experience of devised theatre in 'The Happiness Project'. This interdisciplinary project between academics, scientists and young people sold out at The Roundhouse in London and the Edinburgh Fringe in 2015. For this project, she received an award for public engagement from the Warden of Goldsmiths, University of London. She is currently working on The Frog Princess - Punked with Sally Pomme Clayton
