Overview
Jayne Smith is a Senior Lecturer in Fashion joining the School of Creative Arts, University of Hertfordshire in 2014, following the role of Director of Teaching & Learning for the School of Textiles & Design at Heriot Watt University, responsible for developing and implementing the overall Learning & Teaching strategy which equipped students with the necessary skills to succeed in careers in the global fashion & textile Industry.
She delivers specialist teaching input in garment assembly and pattern cutting to undergraduate and post-graduate students. Her expertise in the discipline led her to publish a book in garment assembly for the fashion industry in 2013.
She is keen to encourage students to embrace creative and challenging approaches to explore design through fabrication, cutting and assembly.
Her work involves developing and implementing an integrated blended teaching experience, which has led her to work with Universities in Sweden, Vietnam, and Dubai, China and across Europe.
Research interests
Current areas of research practice:
• Reconstructing a replica of the 1740s Red Coat for the National Army Museum and exploring the how army dress has influenced male fashion from the beginning of time.
• Fashion education, pedagogy and mobile learning for student studying in the Creative Arts
