Research interests
My current research critiques the idea of the university as a private enterprise and highlights the impact of neoliberalism of student and staff practices. This research contributes to the current debate concerning the nature of education, more generally, in England and the West and highlights how theory and practices impact on the day-to-day lives of academics and students. My research interests marry with my teaching interests and include, but are not limited to:
- higher education as a public good
- higher education and citizenship formation
- academics and students as public intellectuals
- marginalisation, alienation and engagement of students and academics in a neoliberal age
- philosophical analyses of partnership in higher education policy and practice
- morality and ethics, particularly virtue, in learning, professional development and academic practice/identity
